Well this is the fourth story of Charita Norman and each has been very different, set in different place and the research that has gone in to all 4 must of been intense but this one in particular as it was a subject I knew nothing about and now feel I understand it and feel there must be an ever unknown number of males out there living very lonely and depressed lives as was Luke Livingstone ....you will need to read this very interesting well written book to find out his secret which is sad but true. A wonderfully sensitive, albeit disturbing at times story of a family's journey to accept someone for who they really are.
Interesting insight into a side of life I have had no involvement with previously. Initially I thought it was going to be cliched but I really enjoyed the book and enjoy the writing of this author. She tells a good yarn.
Fabulous book.....ending very different to what I expected but it was even better then what i predicted. I would say anyone would love it... Some folk are so strong in face of change that I was humbled by some characters in parts. Will be recommending it to others.
I loved this book from it's opening lines, it had me completely hooked. Each of the character's journey through such an interesting topic was heartfelt and so realistically true. I could feel the pain, joy, despair, anger, confusion of them all in their journey of understanding and adjustment. I didn't want the story to end!

A well written book that I thoroughly enjoyed. I learned a lot about transsexualism and it was worth it. The author gives the point of view of the transgender person (man body), the wife, the daughter and son, family, as well as the reactions of colleagues, neighbours and friends, all through a story that kept me deeply interested. The author manages to give a very broad overview of the different ways in which all these people respond to and cope with the events. I only gave it four stars for two reasons I found the son's story a little bit far fetched and maybe the happy ending is as well, but why not. I enjoyed the journey and am interested enough to have bought another book by the same author.
This book is so well written that it felt like it could have been my own family the story was about. You really believed that this was a true story not fiction as the author was able to grasp the true feelings of each of the characters so you were able to understand what turmoil they were going through. This book should be read by all as it gives a great understanding what it is actually like for a cross dresser, why they feel the need to wear woman's clothes....it is not a choice it comes from within. It certainly opened my eyes. A must read. Beautiful.
