".....Most of them are Danes, but I have heard the tongues of Frisians and Finn and Northumbrian amongst them. We are in evil case, for slavery is the least we have to fear."I wish I could say more about the author Charles W. Whistler, but I know next to nothing and so far I haven't found any information in any of his books. A few of them have 1-2 page prefaces with some historical info, of which I have found Mr. Whistler to be generally faithful. From what I can gather we was writing in the late 1800's and early 1900's; his preface to The Sea Queen is dated 1906.
The Sea Queen follows a band of warriors including an Irish Jarl, a English Thane, and an Irish Prince as they rescue themselves and a Norwegian shield maiden from the wrath of a nasty viking's 2 ships, and along the way they cross paths with Hakon.
From the coasts of Ireland to the fjords of Norway, this is a good and original adventure story set in the early 10th century (935 or so). Whistler brings the saga voice to his narrative without making it painful for anyone who has not tackled a saga before. My one grievance is the Filiquarian Publishing with text that feels like a movie script and the large book format which makes it a little awkward/uncomfortable to read. At the same time I praise them for making it available. If like myself you are a fan of Bernard Cornwell's "Saxon Chronicles" following the adventures of Lord Uhtred, then any of Whistler's books are likely to please.

A Sea Queen Sailing Charles W Whistler 9781374931336 Books Reviews
The book is entertaining and well written. The plot is simple and straightforward.
If Hermann Hesse and W. Somerset Maugham can achieve 5 stars, 2 stars are a good rating for this book if rated on a curve.
Very interesting books. The perfect storyline. I love Viking sagas.
